This is the cornerstone of high-load Achilles and plantar fascia rehabilitation. Performing it on the Scalene increases the range of motion available through the ankle compared to a flat surface, producing a deeper stretch at the bottom of each repetition.
How to do it:
- Stand on one foot on the Scalene, toes elevated

3. Plantar Fascia Stretch on the Second Angle

It places the foot in a position that lengthens the plantar fascia along its full length without the aggressive dorsiflexion demand of the other angle.
How to do it:
- Stand with your foot on the second angle of the Scalene, toes elevated
- Allow your body weight to gently load the plantar fascia and calf into a sustained stretch
- Hold for 45 to 90 seconds per foot
- Repeat 3 times
4. Big Toe Mobilization on the Second Angle
Big toe extension is essential for normal walking and running mechanics, and tightness here is a common contributor to plantar fasciitis. The second angle of the Scalene creates the ideal position for loading the big toe into extension with body weight.
How to do it:
- Place the ball of your foot and toes on the lower edge of the Scalene using the second angle, heel on the ground
- Allow your body weight to gently load the toe into extension
- Hold for 30 to 60 seconds, 3 times per foot
5. Bent-Knee Calf Raise on the Scalene
The soleus sits beneath the gastrocnemius and is often undertrained. Bending the knee during a calf raise isolates the soleus, which plays a significant role in Achilles tendon load and ankle stability.
How to do it:
- Stand on one foot on the Scalene with a slight bend in the knee
- Perform slow, controlled calf raises keeping the knee bent throughout
- 3 sets of 15 reps per leg
6. Reverse Lunge on the Scalene
Placing the front foot on the Scalene during a reverse lunge creates a deep ankle and calf stretch while simultaneously loading the glute and quad of the front leg. This is an advanced exercise that bridges mobility and strength training.
How to do it:
- Stand with your front foot on the Scalene, toes elevated
- Step the back foot behind you and lower into a lunge
- Keep the front heel down and knee tracking over the toes throughout
- 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps per leg
